We recently saw a Facebook status that read, “The Beach – Where doing absolutely nothing is doing something.”
Are you the type that feels guilty for relaxing? In this fast-paced world it’s easy to feel that way, but don’t. As the song says, “Don’t worry, be happy.” But we’re going to add this, “Just go to the beach – Cocoa Beach.” It’s beautiful, clean and good for you.
There’s something so soothing about the beach. Just imagine sitting in a comfy chair or lying on a towel on the sand, and hearing the seagulls welcome you, not to mention the rhythmic sound of the waves hitting the sandy shore. If you’re alone, it’s a perfect time to relax and cool your emotional jets. The beach is also a fantastic place to connect with your family, friends and significant other without the regular noise of the day (keep those cell phones in your beach bag).
Going to Cocoa Beach’s sandy shores is like going to the spa … and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than visiting a real one. When you take a dip in the refreshing Atlantic Ocean, the seawater does a number of great things for your body. Did you know saltwater increases skin elasticity, improves your circulation and contains many healthful minerals to boost your body? The ocean’s iodine is great for thyroid function and fights infections, while the saltwater is very good for eczema, acne, psoriasis and healing cuts and infections. Got a cold or stuffy nose? Well, forget that neti pot because swimming in the ocean will clear out your nasal passages. And we all know that swimming is great exercise and loads of fun.
Sunlight is good for depression and gives us vitamin D, which is essential for building our immune system and strong bones. Just 10 to 15 minutes in the sun gives you what your body needs for getting a good dose of the vitamin. Make sure you don’t overexpose your skin; take appropriate measures to guard your skin from sunburns by applying a sunblock.
So, going to the beach is doing something even when you’re doing nothing. So, what are you waiting for?
